Abstract

Two main paths are being followed to mitigate the ethical and moral problems that arise and could arise with AI. The first could be termed “AI Ethics,” which, broadly speaking, involves the enactment of regulations, policies, and Acts. This path has two main challenges, which will be discussed. Because of these two challenges in AI Ethics, a second path emerges in the relationship between AI and ethics. This could be termed “Ethical AI,” which, broadly speaking, involves designing AI systems with powers of ethical cognition, decision-making, judgment, and execution. Hence, this talk shall discuss how researchers are currently working to design and develop ethical AI systems by embedding moral and social norms (or goals) into Algorithms. It shall also critically discuss the challenges befalling this path, despite its progress, which are mainly grounded on the essential nature of moral and ethical principles: the formalization of moral principles and the quantitative definition of ethical and social values.
